Healing Through Gratitude to God for Even the Simple Things in Life

Opportunities to thank God are all around us at all times in the ordinary moments. How many times do we overlook, ignore, or dismiss those opportunities to chat with God?

Find the Beauty in Everyday Moments

Awareness of God’s presence in every moment of life is important in learning to connect with God every day. When I say “connect,” I mean talking and listening.

What is this? It’s the lining of your colon as seen under the microscope. Who made you with complexity, beauty, and wonder like this? Take a moment to say, “Thank you.” God knows every detail of our lives. He is interested in every detail, even the trivial stuff.

God is in every moment – the good, the bad, the mundane, and everything else. Everyone has time to say a simple “thank you” to God in everyday moments in life, even if your life is crazy busy.

What do you see with your physical eyes in this picture? People walking in the city. What do you see with your spiritual eyes? The ability to move and walk? The ability to go to work and create wealth through creativity, thinking, and building?

What do you see spiritually in this picture? The love of family and togetherness? Give thanks to God for that. There may be a tendency to focus only on the physical aspects – the shoes and socks –- and perhaps focus on the untidiness?

Even in lonely and empty moments, you can connect with God and chat with Him to help you when you feel this way. He is always waiting for you to talk to Him about your situations. Most people go to family and friends and never think of going to God to get His guidance and comfort.

The routine and mundane of the everyday are often overlooked moments in our fast-paced lives, where material pursuits are prioritized. Yet, these ordinary moments are opportunities to spend time with God in His presence during the day.

5 Things to Thank God For That Most People Miss

Gratitude isn’t about pretending everything is fine.

Gratitude isn’t about pretending everything is fine.

It’s about choosing to believe that God is still good, even when life isn’t. Sometimes, we wait for good feelings to come before we give thanks. But in the Bible, gratitude is often an act of faith: given before the sea parts, before the healing comes, before the answer is seen. Gratitude shifts our eyes from what is missing to what is true.

Delays That Protected You

That missed opportunity, that closed door—what if it was God shielding you

from something you couldn’t see?

"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their

steps." —Proverbs 16:9

Reflection Prompt: What delay do you now see as protection?

Prayers That Weren’t Answered Your Way

Hard Emotions That Taught You Something

Sometimes God’s "no" is really a higher "yes."

"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him."

Romans 8:28

Reflection Prompt: What "unanswered" prayer led to something better?

Hard Emotions That Taught You Something

Trials that led to inner growth and strength

Hard Emotions That Taught You Something

Even hard emotions are teachers. Anger reveals values. Sadness shows depth.

"Search me, God, and know my heart." —Psalm 139:23

Reflection Prompt: What emotion has taught you the most about yourself?

The Ability to Feel Deeply

Even when it hurts, the ability to feel is a gift. It means your heart is alive.

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you." —Ezekiel 36:26

Reflection Prompt: How has God met you in your sensitivity?

Life can be very challenging. But trials are meant for growth, and not harm. Living a life of comfort while in a spiritual battle is really not the spiritual goal of life.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  —John 16:33

Reflection Prompt: How has God met you in your trials?
